Cereals Canada training programs are specifically designed to target customer needs and demonstrate the quality of Canadian wheat classes.
One- to five-day sessions may include a broad overview of the grain industry and hands-on presentations in our analytical laboratory,
end-product (baking, noodle, pasta) areas, and milling facility, as well as farm tours and grading demonstrations.

Grain Industry Overview

This popular program is designed to provide a broad overview of the Canadian grain industry for a domestic audience and is geared to new staff in the industry. Particular emphasis will be on the objectives and operations of the key players in the industry (private sector and government) and their inter-relationship with other organizations involved in the grain industry. This program is offered for a fee and is open to Canadian residents only who work in agriculture and involved in the grain business.

Program Agenda

Day 1: Agriculture in Canada
Get a broad overview of Canadian agriculture—from wheat breeding to farming and regulation; includes a grain inspection and grading demonstration from the Canadian Grain Commission and a visit to a local farm.

Day 2: Federal Regulations and Quality Assurance
Federal Regulations and Quality Assurance Learn about the federal organizations that help maintain and ensure the quality and safety of Canadian grains, plus take a look at market access challenges and opportunities.

Day 3: Canadian Agricultural Value Chain Organizations
Hear from several national commodity groups and value chain organizations, and tour the Cereals Canada pilot mill, bakery, pasta and noodle plants, and analytical lab.

Day 4: Canadian Agricultural Value Chain Organizations
Overviews provided from additional commodity groups, a look at Focus on sustainability and research, then take a tour of the Canadian Malting Barley Technical Centre.

Day 5: Understanding the Customer
Get the market outlook for Canadian grain, learn about customer-focused value chain initiatives, and enjoy a closing lunch.

Combine to Customer

Developed specifically for farmers, our Combine to Customer program provides a broad overview of grain industry operations and provides valuable insight about end-user needs and what customers of Canadian grain are asking for, as well as a forum for learning and discussing grain industry issues.

The three day course includes sessions on wheat breeding and the key qualities of Western Canadian wheat classes customers depend on, as well as market outlook presentations, grain grading demonstrations, and updates on Cereals Canada initiatives. The Combine to Customer program runs every February and March in Winnipeg, Manitoba and is open to Canadian farmers only. Please contact your provincial wheat commission to be nominated.
